FLAG POLE AT FORT PHOENIX  IS DAMAGED

announcement

NOTICE FROM THE FAIRHAVEN HISTORICAL COMMISSION:

The Fairhaven Historical Commission is responsible for the flag that flies at Fort Phoenix. We mean no disrespect for not flying the flag at 1/2 staff for the entire time of Honor for the Servicemen killed in Afghanistan. There is a problem with the pulley or "Truck" at the top of the pole. If we put the flag at 1/2 staff we chance damaging the truck further by the rope pulling on an angle and then we can not fly a flag at all. We made the decision to leave the flag full staff, as not to cause further damage, in Honor of all who service the United States of America. Our only other would have been to remove the flag during the 1/2 staff period which we feel would have been far more disrespectful. I hope that everyone understands this is done out of respect and not the opposite. Repairs are scheduled for October after the summer season winds down.
