Nine Member Charter Committee Appointments Announced by Town Moderator

August 3, 2021 – Fairhaven Town Moderator Mark Sylvia announced today the appointment of nine citizens to the Fairhaven Charter Committee.   Authorized by Article 48 of the June 12, 2021 Annual Town Meeting, the Charter Committee is charged with:

            "..the review of all aspects of local government organization and structure, including, without limitation, regional relationships and the operation of all Town departments, board, committees and commissions, elected and appointed, and make a report or recommendations to the 2022 Annual Town Meeting, or such later town meeting as the Moderator may approve, with the goal of presenting a proposed charter at the 2022 Annual Town Meeting, which special legislation would be forwarded to the General Court for review and approval, in accordance with the Home Rule Amendment, Section 8..."

Individuals considered for appointment to the Charter Committee were required to submit a letter of interest by July 12, 2021.   The Charter Committee Members are:

In announcing the appointments, Town Moderator Sylvia commented “The nine members of the Charter Committee bring a variety of backgrounds and experience to the table.  Each member will bring an open mind to the process, will continuously engage with our local officials and the public and will build consensus around recommendations that will strengthen our town government and community”.

In addition to making these appointments, Town Moderator Sylvia has designated Kyle Bueno as the acting chair for the first meeting.   Among the acting chair’s responsibilities are calling the first meeting to order and coordinating the election of permanent officers including Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary.
