Signs Placed in the Public Way

bow-sign-reminder

As a general reminder, please be aware that signs placed within the public road right of way, which is 8 (eight) feet in from the curb, fall under the jurisdiction of the Board of Public Works (BPW).

As a result, please be advised, should someone complain about a sign placed in the public right of way, the BPW may remove this sign.

If the BPW does remove a sign in front of your property, the BPW will make all reasonable efforts to contact both the home owner and the sign owner in advance and inform them of the situation as well as the complaint, before the sign is removed.

The above includes all signs – house for sale, yard sale, political, contractor, etc.

Should a sign be removed, again, which may only occur as a response from a received complaint, the sign would be held for a reasonable time for the owner to claim it.

Please contact the BPW with any questions at 508-979-4030.
