The Town of Fairhaven Water Pollution Control Facility has completed two projects aimed at increasing energy efficiency. With a 45% GAP grant for energy efficiency and clean energy projects and a matching incentive of 45% by Eversource, we were able to complete two projects:

1. Installation of a variable frequency drive on aeration blower #3
2. Installation of a new 1 ton GTS Heat Pump System on the existing emergency generator at the treatment plant.

Energy savings will be realized by both of these tasks, first allowing the blower to run at reduced speeds when allowed by the plant conditions, and second by creating a redundant heating system that extracts energy from ambient air and does not need to run continuously, as the original system did.

Both systems are operational and working as intended thru development of the project.

The combined cost of these improvements to the treatment plant was $43,302 with the Town’s share being only $ 2,658 after the grant and Eversource incentives. In addition to the savings realized thru the funding for the capital costs, the Town will save approximately 66,876 KWh per year ($12,308/year) and maintenance savings of $2407 per year.
