Updated Changes in COVID-19 Reopening Plan Effective March 1, 2021

Governor Baker recently announced the following changes related to the COVID-19 Regulations. These changes are subject to public health data.

Effective March 1, 2021 Massachusetts will be moving into Phase 3 Step 2 of its Reopening Plan. The following changes will go into effect: 

  • Indoor Performance Venues will be reopening with a capacity limitation- 50% (500 people max) 
  • Indoor Recreation will be reopening with a capacity limitation- 50% 

 

  • The following industries will be at a 50% capacity, with the exemption of staff: o Arcades & Other Indoor and Outdoor Recreation Businesses 
    • Close Contact Personal Services (e.g., salons) 
    • Driving and Flight Schools 
    • Fitness Centers and Health Clubs 
    • Golf Facilities (indoor) 
    • Libraries 
    • Lodging (common spaces) 
    • Museums, Cultural & Historic Facilities, Guided Tours 
    • Office Spaces 
    • Places of Worship 
    • Sectors Not Otherwise Addresses 
    • Theaters and Performance Venues 
    • Relevant EEA Industries- Youth sports spectators, etc. 

 

  • Restaurant industry will have the following changes:
    • Capacity limitations will be lifted, tables must remain 6 feet apart 
    • Live musical performances will be allowed with social distancing 

Effective March 22, 2021 Massachusetts will be moving into Phase 4 Step 1 of its Reopening Plan. The following changes will go into effect: 

  • Events
    • Public spaces will have a capacity limitation- 100 Indoor, 150 outdoor 
    • Private spaces will have a capacity limitation- 10 Indoor, 25 outdoor 
  • Indoor and outdoor stadiums, arenas and ballparks will be allowed to be open with a 12% capacity limitation
    • Venues with a capacity less than 5,000 individuals are subject to the Indoor and Outdoor Performance Venue Guidance
    • Large venues are defined as a capacity of 5,000 individuals or greater 

 

  • Overnight camps will be allowed to reopen for Summer 2021 

 

  • Dance floors may be open for weddings and events only 

 

  • The following will not be open yet:
    • Roads races, street festivals, parades, and fairs 
    • Amusement parks, theme parks, outer water parks 
    • Indoor water and indoor/outdoor ball pits 
    • Saunas, hot-tubs, steam rooms at fitness centers, health clubs, and other facilities 
    • Beer gardens/breweries/wineries/distilleries 
    • Bars, dance clubs, and nightclubs not providing seated food service
