Community Electricity Aggregation

The Town of Fairhaven, supported by the Massachusetts Southcoast chapter of the Climate Reality Project and the Fairhaven Sustainability Committee, is looking for your feedback on purchasing 10% more renewable electricity in the Community Electricity Aggregation contract. This would automatically enroll everyone in an additional 10% of renewable energy on top of what is required by the state. The contract gives everyone the following choices:

  • Opt up to 50% or 100% renewable electricity.
  • Opt down to receive no additional renewable electricity above the state law requirement.
  • Opt out of the aggregation program altogether.

To provide your feedback on the addition of 10% renewable energy in the Community Electricity Aggregation contract, please take our survey!

Cost Estimate Breakdown - a more detailed breakdown of what a 10% increase might look like for residents and small, medium, and large businesses.

In early 2016, the Town of Fairhaven joined 22 other communities to launch a community electricity aggregation (CEA) program designed to provide residents and businesses with competitive choice, long-term price stability, and reduced electricity rates. Also known as municipal electricity aggregation, the program relies on bulk-purchasing methods that generate economies of scale, resulting in reduced electricity supply costs for participating Eversource account holders.

The program has since renewed with Public Power, LLC and will run for 36 months beginning September 2018 through January 2021 at a rate of 10.430 cents/kWh.

You can find more infomation on the Fairhaven Electricity Program here. More information from the Good Energy, the energy consultant, regarding the status of the program can be found here.

Currently, we are in the beginning of the process to negotiate our next contract. Good Energy provided presentations on renewing the program on March 2, 2020 and April 9, 2020. There are also different levels of renewable energy options that are able to be included in the next contract. You can find more information about local renewable energy options here.
