S.A.F.E. PROGRAM

FIRE EDUCATION / S.A.F.E. PROGRAM

For several years now, the Fairhaven Fire Department has participated in a Massachusetts State Grant that funds the Fire Education of children in the school system. S.A.F.E. stands for Student Awareness of Fire Education. The Safe Program since it inception in 1995, reduced the number of fire deaths annually of children under the age of 18 by 72%. Each school year firefighters enter the pre-schools and elementary schools to teach children the dangers of Fire.

Senior SAFE

In addition to educating Children, the SAFE team also educates the senior population through another Massachusetts State Grant known as Senior SAFE. This program is designed to educate seniors on fire safety including but not limited to, fire safety means of egress, stove safety, and general safety issues. The SAFE team also works with the Fire Department Administration in providing feedback and recommendations to area businesses fire safety plans. We review exit plans, policies, procedures, and training recommendations to their staff.
