Fairhaven Board of Health awarded $30,000 recycle grant

April 26, 2018
Press Release - The Town of Fairhaven Board of Health has been awarded a $30,000.00 grant
from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. The program will begin early
this summer and run for 16 weeks. The grant will allow for education and outreach to residents.
The World Recycling market is experiencing substantial contamination issues which need to be
addresses locally. The program will allow the Health Department to evaluate recycle carts and
educate the public as to what is an acceptable recyclable product, what is not an acceptable
recyclable product and what is the best option for recycling certain items. If we produce a
marketable recycle product than we will reduce our cost when negotiating contracts.
The Health Department has a few new programs coming soon, including mattress recycling,
paint take-back days, textile recovery boxes and school recycle programs. We as a community
need to reduce recycle and reuse any materials we can to keep our municipal fees as low as
possible.
Please contact the Health Department at (508) 979-4023 ext. 125 for more information.
