NEW Governor Orders Effective Friday, 11/6

Governor Baker announced three new and/or updated orders on Monday, November 2, 2020 that go into effect on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 12:01 am. 

The following is a summary of those orders:

1. All persons aged 5 years or older are required to wear a mask in all public settings, even when social distancing is observed, unless they have a medical condition preventing them from doing so. This includes carpooling with members outside of your household.

2. Residents are advised to stay home between the hours of 10 pm and 5 am unless leaving to go to work or school or for an essential need (e.g., emergency medical care, grocery store, pharmacy).

3. All of the businesses, facilities, or activities indicated below must close their premises to the public each day by 9:30 pm and not re-open their premises until 5:00 am the following day. 

  • Restaurants 
    • Restaurants may offer take-out and delivery of food and non-alcoholic beverages during the mandatory closing period. 
  • Arcades and Other Indoor and Outdoor Recreation 
  • Indoor and Outdoor Events
  • Indoor and Outdoor Theaters, Movie Theaters, and Performance Venues
  • Drive-In Movie Theaters
  • Youth and Adult Amateur Sports Activities (e.g., dance studios)
  • Golf Facilities
  • Recreational Boating and Boating Businesses 
  • Outdoor Recreational Experiences and Educational Activities 
  • Casinos, Horse Racing Tracks, and Simulcast Facilities
  • Driving and Flight Schools
  • Zoos, Botanical Gardens, Wildlife Reserves, and Nature Centers 
  • Close Contact Personal Services (e.g., salons)
  • Fitness Centers and Health Clubs
  • Indoor and Outdoor Pools (Public and Semi-Public Swimming Pools)
  • Museums, Cultural and Historical Facilities, and Guided Tours

4. All sales of alcohol and adult-use cannabis must stop at 9:30 pm.

5. All social gatherings should end at 9:30 pm. 

  • Social distancing of 6 feet should still be maintained.
  • Gatherings at Private Residences:
    • Indoors: maximum of 10 people 
    • Outdoors: maximum of 25 people 
  • Gatherings at Event Venues and in Public Settings 
    • Indoors: maximum of 25 people 
    • Outdoors: 
      • If designated a lower-risk community: 100 people 
      • If not designated a lower-risk community: maximum of 50 people


It is important to note that all sector-specific safety standards to address COVID-19 are still in effect and should be followed.
