Become a Poll Worker

Become a Poll Worker

Welcome! We are happy to see you are interested in becoming a new poll worker. We're always looking for registered Massachusetts voters who want to work at the polls on Election day!  Whether you want to work early voting, one or all four of the elections in 2024, elections in the future, or be placed on the substitution list, please let us know.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age to be eligible for employment.

The Town pays poll workers $15/hour for working on Election Day and for attending the training sessions. If a poll worker cannot work the full day, a request to work a partial day would need to be submitted to the Town Clerk's Office prior to the election. Throughout the day you will receive a lunch and dinner break.

Election worker training will be held for all poll workers. The focus of the training is usually on areas specific to a primary election, election laws, what to do in an emergency, and voter/election worker interaction among other things.  Training is provided before each election and there are plenty of mentors available during the work day.

On Election Day, you will be working with several people who have been trained poll workers for many years. They will build on your preliminary training by assisting you with all procedures and answer any questions you may have about the voting process. Additionally, you will be provided with a Poll Workers Instruction book to review while you work.

Occasionally a poll worker may run for office, be closely associated with a candidate for office, or take a particularly active and public position on a ballot question or candidacy in an election. To avoid any perceived conflict of interest, potential poll workers should review the Campaign Activity Policy and contact this office for further information on election work eligibility.

If you are a registered Massachusetts voter and you are interested in becoming a paid Election Day Poll Worker, please fill out the attached Poll Worker Application (see attachment), and drop it off at the Town Clerk's office or print, sign, scan and email: clerk@fairhaven-ma.gov or mail to: Fairhaven Town Clerk, 40 Center Street, Fairhaven, MA 02719

If you have any questions, please contact the Town Clerk's Office: (508) 979-4023 x3 or clerk@fairhaven-ma.gov.
