Boards and Committees

Planning Board - The Planning Board studies the resources and needs of the Town, particularly conditions affecting public welfare and safety related to land use and development. The Board uses the Master Plan and related processes to plan and make recommendations for the development of the Town, with special attention to the proper housing of Town residents. The Board administers the Zoning Bylaws with respect to review of Subdivision Regulations and Special Permits as well as the primary responsibility for the writing of Zoning Bylaws, reviewing amendments to the Zoning Map for any Town Meeting.


Economic Development Committee - The mission of the Fairhaven Economic Development Committee is to enhance the existing business community, attract new business, attract new customers and encourage redevelopment and new development as may be advisable in order to increase the Town's property tax revenues, income, job base and overall economic health. 


Community Preservation Committee - The CPC oversees Fairhaven's Community Preservation Fund, selected preservation projects and recommends selected projects to Town Meeting for funding. Preservation projects may include acquiring, preserving and creation open space, historic resources, land for recreation use and community housing.


Bikeway Committee - Dedicated to promoting bicycling throughout the community for recreation and everyday use.  We seek to make Fairhaven’s streets and paths safe for all users and to educate cyclists, pedestrians and motorists on safe and lawful road use.  We will work with local, state and federal entities and local businesses to create and expand cycling networks and facilities in Town and connecting to surrounding communities.  Through planning, education and encouragement, we will make Fairhaven a healthy community of riders.


Historical Commission - On April 3, 1971, Annual Town Meeting voted to accept Section 8D of Chapter 40 of the Massachusetts General Laws and establish in the Town of Fairhaven a Historical Commission to mark, acquire, maintain, preserve, promote and develop places of historical value.
